Night fishing is the most popular kind of fishing in the Maldives. The rhythmic music of the waves could be enjoyed along with the gentle breeze of the ocean during night fishing. Fishes such as snappers, squirrel fish, jacks, little tuna, rainbow runner, travally, etc. could be caught during the night. Expertise in the sport is not required in fishing, which makes it more enjoyable even for the non-aficionados.

Fishing in the Maldives is also an integral part of the economy of the Maldives. It is also the livelihood of most communities. Fishing in the Maldives provides an ample proportion of the gross domestic product, and job opportunities for the majority of the population in Maldives as well. The Hulhangu season and the Iruvai season are the best times to go fishing in the Maldives where the monsoons are evident. This season usually occurs during the months of June and July.
