Maldives Nominated in the New 7 Wonders of Nature

Maldives is Nominated in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The New 7 Wonders of Nature is a campaign in which a global poll is conducted wherein people are to choose 7 natural wonders of the entire world which would be globally recognized as soon as the winners are declared by the year 2011. The campaign is organized by a Switzerland-based New7Wonders Foundation after being successful in the organization of the New 7 Wonders of the World last 2007. The Maldives was nominated alongside with other natural wonders like the Grand Canyon, the Amazon River, the Puerto Princesa Underground River, the Great Barrier Reef, Mt. Vesuvius, Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Dead Sea, the Angel Falls, and 20 other righteous finalists who had made it among the 261 qualifiers. The New7Wonders Foundation, together with the United Nations, had teamed up in order to undertake documentation and conservation works of monuments worldwide and to sensitize the people to the beauty of the world’s man-made and natural heritage, as well as preventing them from destruction or decay.

Under the New 7 Wonders campaign activities to be able to generate votes from the people of Maldives, the Maldives Tourism Promotion Board had conducted a survey in order to find out the level of awareness from the public about the Maldives competing as a finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. The Maldives should definitely be considered as one of the 7 Natural wonders for its beauty and extraordinary structure of corals which makes up a wonderful paradise worth visiting.
